Red Lake Nation Chairman Floyd "Buck" Jourdain Jr. has requested a recount of the tribe's recent primary, citing questions over absentee ballots.

Jourdain won the most votes in the election. But since he failed to get a majority, the tribe plans to hold a run-off election with Judy Roy, who won the second highest number of votes.

Jourdain said it is necessary to recount the absentee ballots because the race was so close.

A recount would delay the run-off.
