"The Red Lake families' grief is our grief, to a powerful extent.
Their pain is our pain. And our comfort, we do hope, will be theirs.
Much is being made about the things that set the reservation apart - the good things, such as the tribal members' rich heritage, deep loyalty and quick willingness to help each other; the sad things, such as the high unemployment rate.
But in one key way, those differences part to reveal a core similarity - a central fact that unites America with the reservation today, and makes almost audible the collective cry from the agony of it all."
