A federal judge on Friday ruled that the sentencing hearing for Louis Jourdain Jr., the only person charged in connection with the March 21, 2005, shootings on the Red Lake Reservation, will remain closed.

The families of some of the victims sought to gain access to the hearing. They want more information about the incident that left nine people dead on the reservation.

The judge rejected the request, saying Jourdain's crime had nothing to do with the shootings. Jourdain, 17, pleaded guilty to making threatening interstate communications. Two more serious charges were dropped.

Tom Heffelfinger, the U.S. Attorney for Minnesota, plans to meet privately with Red Lake families to discuss the investigation into the tragedy.
