Members of a University of Colorado panel assigned to investigate controversial professor Ward Churchill are recommending that he be fired or suspended.

The members weren't in full agreement on the punishment for Churchill. A final decision rests with the CU chancellor and other senior officials.

The panel was in agreement that Churchill's academic methods are "impoverished." The members said his initial reaction to anyone who criticizes him is to "attack" them.

The panel said Churchill misrepresented the General Allotment Act, falsified claims about the Indian Arts and Crafts Act, fabricated historical research and plagiarized other works.

"Some of this I see as being transparently ridiculous, laughable," Churchill told the AP in response.
