Controversial University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill vowed to file lawsuits against those who accused him of misrepresenting his Indian heritage and his academic record.

Churchill told The Denver Post in an interview that he did not know whom he would sue but that he would seek "damages." He said critics are attacking him for being Indian while asking him to prove that he is Indian.

According to news reports, he has claimed Cherokee, Keetowah, Creek, Cree and Metis ancestry. He does not have membership in any federally recognized tribe.
