North Dakota Gov. John Hoeven (R) graduated from Dartmouth College but he doesn't share the school athletic director's sentiments about Indian mascots.
Hoeven says athletic director Josie Harper was wrong to apologize to Native American students. Dartmouth hosted a tournament with the University of North Dakota, whose "Fighting Sioux" nickname and logo is considered hostile and abusive by the NCAA.
"She takes her position with really no knowledge of UND and no understanding of how they've approached the issue," Hoven says in response.
Harper also apologized for other incidents that offended Native students.
