Officials at five tribal colleges visited by University of North Dakota administrators said they oppose the school's use of the "Fighting Sioux" nickname and logo.
UND administrators Bob Boyd and Leigh Jeanotte scheduled visits to the tribal colleges to discuss education issues. The nickname apparently came up every time.
Laurel Vermillion, the president of Sitting Bull College on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation said she wouldn't associated with UND due to the nickname issue."I feel like I should have a voice in this because I have three degrees from UND," she told The Grand Forks Herald.
The NCAA has put UND on its list of schools with hostile and abusive mascots. A judge has imposed an injunction against NCAA pending resolution of a lawsuit on the policy.
