"Attention, anti-UND Fighting Sioux Logo activists: Please understand, the logo is going to stay. So are the classes and majors in Indian-related studies. So is the fact that underpopulated North Dakota graduates more Indian physicians than any other state.
So is the pride in the Fighting Sioux reputation that many Native Americans have admitted to. So is the fact that UND is going to keep working hard at educating students, faculty, alumni and members of our community to be respectful of all minorities, just as minorities should respect others.
While the majority in this debate has produced tributes, scholarships and the like, as well as compromised and acquiesced, what have the activists done?
Without the positive name recognition and public platform UND provides, how many people would know anything about Sioux history? How many would take the time to care? How many children would see fancy dancers or the Native Americans culture presented at so many of our UND sporting events?"
