A former police officer fired for being linked to the death of a Native teen categorically denied taking custody of Neil Stonechild the night he went missing.
Larry Hartwig and his partner Brad Senger were said to be the last people to see Stonechild alive in late November 1990. Stonechild's frozen body was found out the outskirts of town several days later.
An official government inquiry found that Stonechild was in police custody the night he went missing. The inquiry said marks and bruises on his body were "likely" caused by police handcuffs.
Hartwig and Senger were fired as a result. They are now challenging their dismissal.
