MethSMART program targets youth on reservations

Indian youth are being educated about the dangers of methamphetamine through a program called MethSMART.

The Boys & Girls Clubs created MethSMART to target youth ages 6 through 18. It is being implemented at eight Native American Boys & Girls Clubs, including the one on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Reservation in Arizona.

"It's mostly a big problem here on the reservation," Taneasha Thomas, a tribal member said, 3TV reported. "Everyone’s doing it, most of the kids."

Jolene Decker, an instructor for the program, said meth dealers are going after younger and younger kids.
