Methamphetamine infects Flathead Reservation

Police officers on the Flathead Reservation in Montana are devoting most of their time to meth dealers and meth addicts, the chief of police for the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes said.

Craig Couture said meth has affected his own family. His brother was addicted to meth for several years before coming clean. "I told every police officer he was an addict,' Couture said, The Belfast Telegram reported. "At the time he hated me. He told me I was going to find him dead."

Shaden, a 28-year-old tribal member, finally stopped using meth several months ago. She said she grew up in a family where most of her relatives used meth and other drugs. She is now receiving treatment at a women's center.
