Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nevada), the leader of the Democrats in the Senate, called Jack Abramoff a "Republican scandal" and said he received no money from the disgraced lobbyist.
"Don't lump me in with Jack Abramoff. This is a Republican scandal," Reid said on Fox News Sunday.
A graphic published in The Washington Post graphic last week showed Reid with $47,000 in Abramoff-related contributions. But Reid said he never took money from Abramoff.
"Make sure that all your viewers understand � not a penny from Abramoff. I've been on the Indian Affairs Committee my whole time in the Senate," he said. He added: "I'll repeat, Abramoff gave me no money. His firm gave me no money. He may have worked a firm where people have given me money."
