Nominee: Abramoff bragged of contact with Karl Rove

A Bush administration nominee has told the Senate that disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff bragged of his contact with White House political aide Karl Rove, The Washington Post reports.

Timothy E. Flanigan, Bush's nominee for deputy attorney general, currently works for Tyco. The company hired Abramoff and the Greenberg Traurig firm to lobby Congress and the White House on tax issues.

In a statement to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Flanigan said Abramoff claimed that he "had contact with Mr. Karl Rove" on tax legislation that Tyco opposed. The White House said Rove "has no recollection" of any contacts with Abramoff, The Post reported.
