First Nations leader calls off blockade plan

The Roseau River First Nation of Manitoba has called off plans for a rail blockade next week.

Chief Terry Nelson threatened to block a Canadian National rail line on June 29. That's the National Day of Action, organized by the Assembly of First Nations to call attention to Native issues.

"There are two ways to deal with the white man. You either pick up a gun or you stand between him and his money," Nelson had told reporters.

But Nelson said the community decided not to go forward, citing Canada's promise to add 75 acres to the reserve.
