Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Assembly of First Nations Chief Phil Fontaine will unveil legislation aimed at speeding up hundreds of land claims.
The bill will create an independent commission to resolve land claims and treaty disputes. The government also would provide up to $250 million to settle the disputes.
AFN will co-write the legislation, which comes as the First Nations Day of Action on June 29 approaches. Native leaders plan to hold protests across the nation to call attention to their issues.
