Indian affairs overhaul faces delays

FRIDAY, JUNE 14, 2002 Changes in the federal Indian Act are being delayed to address objections from First Nations leaders. The Department of Indian and Northern Affairs announced it wanted to overhaul the law but met substantial resistsance. Scoping meetings held last year were boycotted. Indian Affairs Minister Robert Nault was planning to unveil the results of that process today. He did announce a new bill to speed up land claim settlements, though. Get the Story:
