Canadian Aboriginals reported seven hate crimes to police in 12 major areas, according to Statistics Canada.
In 2001 and 2002, a total of 928 hate crimes were reported. One percent targeted Aboriginals. Jewish people made up 25 percent of the reports, the largest of any group.
The data is based on a pilot study. Annual reports will start in 2005.
