First Nations protest changes in federal policy

TUESDAY, APRIL 29, 2003 The Canadian government will move ahead with legislation to overhaul the federal-tribal relationship despite protests from First Nations. The First Nations Governance Act is intended to replace the Indian Act. Indian Affairs Minister Robert Nault is calling for more accountability and greater self-governance but Aboriginal leaders say they have not been consulted about the changes. Get the Story:
