The Schaghticoke Tribal Nation of Connecticut filed a lawsuit against a lobbying firm and a citizens' group that opposed the tribe's recognition.
The tribe says the Barbour, Griffith and Rogers firm and Town Action to Save Kent violated federal law by contacting the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The firm represented TASK in its bid to block the tribe's recognition.
The BIA had ruled in favor of the tribe but the decision was set aside. After reconsidering the case, the BIA said the tribe didn't qualify for recognition. The tribe is trying to get that ruling overturned in federal court.
