Three Connecticut lawmakers asked Interior Secretary Gale Norton to revoke the recognition of the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation because the Bureau of Indian Affairs made a mistake in the case.
Reps. Nancy Johnson, Christopher Shays and Rob Simmons, all Republicans, said the error in calculating intermarriage rates is further evidence that the tribe's petition is faulty. They said the BIA should reverse its decision in favor of recognition.
The BIA admitted the mistake but officials say it doesn't necessarily hurt the tribe.
