AFN works to restore $5B funding commitment

The Assembly of First Nations has received more backing in its bid to restore a $5 billion funding commitment from the Canadian government.

The so-called Kelowna accord was developed before the last election. A new political party took office and the agreement fell by the wayside.

AFN Chief Phil Fontaine said the money is vital to the education, housing and health needs of Native people. After a meeting on Tuesday, the leaders of Canada's provinces and territories agreed to renew their commitment to the plan.
