The Sheridan County, Nebraska, Board of Commissioners voted Monday to renew the liquor licenses of three establishments in the border town of Whiteclay.
Tribal activists and the group Nebraskans for Peace had urged rejection of the licenses, citing violations of state liquor laws. But the commission said no evidence was provided to disqualify the liquor establishments.
Whiteclay, with a population of 12, sells more than 12,000 cans of beer every day, mostly to residents of the Pine Ridge Reservation across the border in South Dakota.
