State: Oglala Sioux Tribe to patrol Whiteclay

The Oglala Sioux Tribe will be able to patrol the town of Whiteclay under a forthcoming agreement with the state of Nebraska.

Nebraska attorney general Jon Bruning told The Lincoln Journal Star that an agreement was "weeks away." The two sides have been in discussions since June 2003.

The cross-deputization agreement would allow tribal officers to patrol Whiteclay, a town near the Pine Ridge Reservation where alcohol is sold primarily to tribal members.
