A member of the Oglala Lakota Tribe lost the Green Party's nomination to a U.S. Senate seat in Minnesota.

Ed McGaa had been endorsed by the party over objections by some members, including former vice-presidential candidate and Indian activist Winona LaDuke. He recently ran into trouble over an environmental mess in which he was involved.

Ray Tricomo secured the nomination.

The incumbent is Sen. Paul Wellstone, a Democrat. The Republican nominee is Norm Coleman.
