The Green Party of Minnesota has endorsed Oglala Lakota tribal member Ed McGaa for U.S. Senate.

McGaa secured enough votes in a second round at the party's convention on Saturday. The endorsement came as some members, including Winona LaDuke, called for support of Sen. Paul Wellstone, the Democrat incumbent.

LaDuke and others said Wellstone's views closely reflected the Green Party's.
