Tribes join Kennewick Man case
Concerned that the federal government isn't
acting in their best interests,
a group of Pacific Northwest tribes
has intervened in a court battle
over the 9,000-year-old
Kennewick Man.
The four tribes want to rebury
the remains that were discovered six years ago
in Washington state.
But scientists want to study the bones and
conduct tests.
The Bush administration has not publicly
announced an appeal but must do so
by October 29.

McCaleb holds last BITAM meeting
The last ever BITAM consultation session
was held in Billings, Montana, this week
but the discussion over trust reform
is far from over.
Tribes still plan to push their
agenda before Congress although
legislation is highly unlikely this
year.
Only one trust related bill was
made into law during the 107th
session.
The federal court overseeing
the Individual Indian Money (IIM)
trust also continues to focus
on the debacle.
