THURSDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2002 The last Department of Interior consultation on reorganization of Indian trust duties was held on Wednesday in Montana. "It's been a year since we've been chasing you around," said Arlyn Headdress, chairman of the Fort Peck Tribes, according to The Lincoln Journal Star. Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb led the session. He accepted a proposal by tribes in the Rocky Mountain region and said it would be taken under consideration as the Bush administration moves to respond to a January 6, 2003, court deadline. McCaleb has been invited to speak at the National Congress of American Indians annual conference in San Diego, California, next month. A discussion on trust reform is on the draft agenda for November 12. Get the Story:
