More than 480 people have signed a petition in support of a Catawba Nationcasino in North Carolina.

The petition at change.org calls on the Obama administration to approve the tribe's land-into-trust application for 16 acres. Supports say the casino will create more than 4,000 jobs.

"The Catawba Nation should not be insulted in being named as outsiders," the petition states. "It is important to remember the truth in realizing that the Catawba Nation is recognized in several counties of North Carolina – officially, by the Federal government."

The proposal faces opposition from the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, which operates a casino more than 130 miles from the Catawba site, and politicians in North Carolina.
