Alroy Billiman, a 27-year-old member of the Navajo Nation, was awarded the Purple Heart on Friday for his service in Iraq.
Billiman, an Army specialist, was helping his unit move supplies when an explosive device detonated on the road. He lost his right arm as a result of the November 9, 2006, incident.
Billiman has been in an out of hospitals since losing his arm. But doctors say he is recovering quickly after being fitted with a prosthetic arm.
