The former chief of staff to former Rep. Bob Ney (R-Ohio) was spared a prison sentence for his role in the Jack Abramoff scandal.
William Heaton, 29, was sentenced to two years of probation and was ordered to pay a $5,000 fine. He admitted to accepting gifts from Abramoff, who pleaded guilty to defrauding tribal clients.
Ney is serving a 30-month prison sentence. He took money from Abramoff's tribal clients and promised to take legislative action on their behalf.
