Under scrutiny for his role in the Jack Abramoff scandal, Rep. Bob Ney (R-Ohio) announced today that he won't seek re-election.
Ney hasn't been charged with any crimes. But court papers indicate he accepted campaign contributions, gifts and other items of value from Abramoff, his associates and his tribal clients in exchange for legislative action.
In the most reported incident, Ney promised to help the Tigua Tribe of Texas reopen its casino. He repeatedly told tribal leaders that Abramoff was a good lobbyist as the tribe was bilked out of $4.1 million by an Abramoff associate, according to federal prosecutors.
