The state of Utah will pay $844,000 in legal expenses to the Skull Valley Band of Goshute Indians.
The state owes the tribe money for losing a lawsuit. A federal court said several state laws aimed at stopping the waste were unconstitutional.
The tribe wants to store up to 44,00 tons of nuclear waste on the reservation. The Interior Department has rejected the deal but tribal leaders say they will continue to fight for the project.
