Utah's Congressional delegation wrote a letter to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Thursday to urge the rejection of a nuclear waste dump on the Skull Valley Goshute Reservation.
The delegation promised to fight the proposal if approved. They say storing waste on the reservation is a national security threat.
The tribe signed a lease with Private Fuel Storage, a consortium of eight private utility companies, to store up to 44,000 tons of highly radioactive waste. The plan received a recommendation for approval by a judicial arm of the NRC.
