10th Circuit hears arguments in Goshute waste case
Wednesday, August 27, 2003

The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral arguments on Tuesday in a case challenging the Skull Valley Goshute Tribe's nuclear waste plans.

The tiny tribe wants to host a repository on its remote reservation in Utah. State officials oppose the project, and have passed state laws aimed at stopping it.

A federal judge sided with the tribe and its partners, a consortium of eight private utilities. The state wants the ruling overturned, but is also asking the 10th Circuit to invalidate the project entirely.
