"[W]hy the focus on Native Americans? Are they the only group that gets offended? I imagine that University of Miami fans wince every time they hear a �Go Hurricanes!� chant after a category five just tore through their area. What about the Harvard Crimson or Swarthmore�s own Garnet? Surely we�re far enough from the Cold War to put an end to our blind hatred of communists. And let�s not forget a certain university in South Carolina whose mascot is a rooster. You think anyone is really imagining farm animals when people walk around cheering for the Cocks? If the NCAA really wants to stop its mascots from offending people, it�s got a long way to go.

Realistically, the ban won�t put an end to the offensiveness anyway. If FSU somehow takes the ACC by storm and makes the basketball tournament this year, removing the word �Seminoles� from the uniforms won�t stop their fans from doing war chants after every three-pointer and screaming expletives after every call they disagree with. The only real way to keep all fans from being offended is to outlaw cheering and mascots altogether. And who really wants to watch a game in silence?"
