"Ironically, more Americans are likely familiar with the NCAA ruling of recent weeks than are knowledgeable about the details of the decades' old federal government trust scandal involving hundreds of millions if not billions of unaccounted dollars managed, or mismanaged, by the Interior Department on behalf of Native Americans.

The government has held Indian lands, along with grazing and mineral rights, for more than 100 years. But the management and financial setup has come under increasing fire during the past decade. ... an obscenity far more egregious and damaging than naming sports teams in honor of Native American tribes."
