The village of Fox Lake, Illinois, is seeking to revive its Indian head logo in an effort to pay tribute to the Meskwaki Tribe that once lived there.
Mayor Cindy Irwin proposed reviving the logo, which was replaced by a sailboat five years ago. She calls the sailboat logo a mistake and told her staff to consult with the Meskwakis, who lived in Fox Lake before being removed to Iowa in the early 1900s.
The idea has seen opposition from the Midwest Soarring Foundation, an Indian rights group.
The historian for the Meskwaki Tribe said it will take more than a logo to honor the tribe.
