Senate Republicans believe they have enough votes to approve drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
The GOP controls the Senate by 55 to 45. While not all Republicans support development in ANWR, drilling advocates have at least 51 votes, according to The Washington Post.
Inupiat Eskimos who own land in ANWR support drilling. The Gwich'in Nation, whose members depend on caribous living in ANWR, oppose development.
