ANWR advocates on energy bill committee

FRIDAY, JUNE 14, 2002 House leaders finalized their chamber's picks for a joint Congressional committee that will hammer out a national energy bill. The list includes Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska), an advocate for opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas drilling. He is one of eight Republicans on the joint House-Senate conference committee that support development. On the other side of the issue are seven Democrats and Sen. Jim Jeffords (D-Vt.). Sen. John Breaux (D-La.) has supported drilling in the past and could serve as a tie-breaker. The Senate picked its conferees last month. Chief drilling proponent Sen. Frank Murkowski (R-Alaska) was selected. Get the Story:
