The Senate rejected drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge because the public doesn't understand what's at stake, according to a Department of Interior official.

Rebecca Watson, Assistant Secretary for Lands and Minerals, told an industry gathering in New Mexico on Wednesday that domestic drilling is needed to decrease dependence on foreign oil. She said oil and gas companies must lead the way because her department can't really do it alone.
