Former South Dakota Congressman and governor Bill Janklow (R) is asking to be released from jail as early as today pending appeal of his conviction of felony manslaughter.
Janklow has asked the South Dakota Supreme Court to review the verdict reached by a jury of his peers. He was found guilty of killing motorcyclist Randy Scott last August.
A judge sentenced Janklow to 100 days in jail, which he has been serving since February 7.
He is eligible for community service after 30 days, but must return to his cell at night.
The state Supreme Court is composed entirely of judges Janklow appointed.
