A videotape of Rep. Bill Janklow (R), former governor of South Dakota, made after a fatal August 16 car accident was played in court on Tuesday.

The tape was recorded inside a police cruiser Janklow was riding in as he was taken to a hospital. He knew he was being taped.

On the tape, Janklow said he saw a white car coming towards him as he approached the intersection where the accident occurred. But there wasn't any car -- instead he ran a stop sign, hitting and killing motorcyclist Randy Scott.

Janklow said he was aware of the stop sign. But his lawyers say he was suffering from a diabetic condition that caused him to mistakenly see a white car. A doctor who saw Janklow after the accident testified that Janklow did not seem to be suffering from low blood sugar levels. But by then, Janklow had been given a soft drink and a candy bar to eat.
