Police: Janklow broke speed limit in fatal crash
Thursday, August 21, 2003
Rep. Bill Janklow (R), former governor of South Dakota, was traveling 15 to 20 miles over the speed limit when the car he was driving hit and killed a motorcyclist, according to a police report released on Wednesday. The speed limit on the highway is 55 mph. Motorcyclist Randy E. Scott, 55, was driving the speed limit, the report said. The report also said that Janklow, who has not spoken publicly about the August 16 crash, was not drinking before the accident. State prosecutors are determining whether to bring charges against the four-time governor who was elected to the U.S. House last year. If charged with a criminal felony, it could affect his standing in Congress. Get the Story:
