THURSDAY, APRIL 11, 2002 Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge on Wednesday held his first Congressional briefing. The closed-door session was held in an attempt to assuage concerns by lawmakers who want Ridge to testify formally before their committees. The White House won't allow formal testimony, citing Ridge's nature as a presidential adviser, not a Cabinet member. Democrats, however, weren't happy with Ridge's appearance.
