The Navajo Nation's top lawmaker is doing the right thing by denying funds to an election board that disqualified him from the tribe's presidential ballot, The Farmington Daily-Times says in an editorial today.

"Money earmarked for spending during this fiscal year should be duly expended, not hoarded for use in a future year," the paper writes.

Edward T. Begay, as speaker of the Navajo council, controls funds for tribal elections. He was denied a spot on the ballot but was reinstated after the Navajo Supreme Court said he was unfairly singled out.
