Top Navajo legislator allowed on ballot

MONDAY, JULY 29, 2002

The Navajo Nation Supreme Court on Friday put the tribe's top lawmaker on the presidential ballot.

The court said Navajo Nation Speaker Ed T. Begay was unfairly disqualified for living off the reservation. Other candidates who do not reside on tribal lands had been allowed on a ballot for the primary, now scheduled for September 10.
