The Navajo Nation Supreme Court last week rescheduled the tribe's presidential primary to September 10.

The ruling is expected to boost the turnout for the Congressional primary for Arizona's 1st District. Tribal members typically vote in tribal elections in droves and the combined date is expected to boost the chances of Democrats seeking their party's nod.

Tribal member Derrick Watchman, who is chief of staff to Navajo President Kelsey Begaye, is running for the seat. But George Cordova, who has campaigned heavily on the Navajo Reservation, might benefit the most, according to political observers.

The 1st Congressional district is 19 percent Native.
