Oneida Nation negotiating tax deal with N.Y.
Thursday, December 11, 2003

The Oneida Nation is negotiating with the state of New York over taxation on the reservation, News 10 Now reports.

To prevent the state from imposing its tax, the tribe would be required to raise its sales tax by 5 percent. The tribe would keep all the revenue but not use it for commercial enterprises.

The state is proposing to impose taxes on all the state's reservations. Tribal leaders are opposing the plan.
