Mary Burke, the Democratic candidate for governor in Wisconsin, is open to the Menominee Nation off-reservation casino.

Burke criticized Gov. Scott Walker (R) for delaying a decision on the $800 million casino in Kenosha. She said the project will likely benefit the entire state.

"I would have immediately undertaken an independent study to see what the economic impact on the state as a whole would be and if it creates a significant number of new jobs we should go ahead with that. We are competing with other states like Iowa and Illinois," Burke told WXPR.

Walker initially promised a decision by last October. But he's asking the Bureau of Indian Affairs for an extension until early 2015 -- basically, until after the election against Burke is over.

"A lot of people are dependent on this decision and to say you need more than a year, I just wonder what exactly he is doing that takes so long," Burke told WXPR.
