Skull Valley Goshute Tribe defends nuclear project

The Skull Valley Goshute Tribe of Utah and its partners continue to fight for the chance to build a nuclear waste facility on the reservation.

The tribe and d Private Fuel Storage, a consortium of private energy companies, won approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to store up to 44,000 tons of radioactive waste. But the state has challenged the decision before the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Separately, the tribe has to fight two rulings from the Interior Department. One of them disapproved a lease with PFS, on the grounds that the trust responsibility and inadequate federal funding pose risks for the project.
